Alter Ego is operated by Cafe Boon. This page explains what the service processes and what it does not. Questions: sebastiaanboon@cafeboon.com.
In short
- Your rules, profile, contexts and journals live in your own cloud storage, as plain files.
- The Alter Ego server does not keep your content. It passes through memory only while a tool runs.
- The server keeps only the sign-in state it needs to work.
- This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party resources.
What the service processes
Your content
When your assistant calls a tool, Alter Ego reads or writes files in the storage you chose (OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, GitHub or Azure DevOps). The content passes through the server's memory while that tool call runs and is not stored on the server.
Sign-in state
To keep you connected, the server stores:
- client registrations made by MCP clients,
- short-lived authorization transactions,
- your storage provider's tokens, encrypted at rest,
- metadata of refresh tokens, stored hashed,
- for GitHub and Azure DevOps, the repository you picked.
Technical logs
Like most web services, the server and its host may keep technical logs of requests, such as time, address and status, to run and secure the service. These logs are not used to build profiles.
Who else is involved
- Hosting. The service runs on Hetzner Cloud in Nuremberg, Germany (EU).
- Your storage provider. Your files are held by the provider you choose, under that provider's terms and privacy policy.
- Your AI provider. What your assistant reads from Alter Ego becomes part of your conversation and is handled under the terms and privacy policy of the AI service you use, for example Anthropic for Claude.
This website
This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics or trackers and loads its fonts and scripts from the same server. It does not load anything from third parties.
Your choices
- You can read, edit and delete your files at any time in your own storage.
- You can remove the connector in your AI client and revoke access at your storage provider. The docs show where.
- To ask about data the service holds about you, or to ask for it to be removed, email sebastiaanboon@cafeboon.com.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
